Project 365 Day 1: A Big Start with Lots of Pictures

I was going to start this year's Project 365 on the 1st. Turns out it took until July 4th for me to break the inner block that kept me from starting. So I've started. Here's some of the many, many pictures I took today.

Project 365 Days 13 and 14

Continuing my Project 365 to the end of the second week, here's two groups of pictures from the last two days. Starting with the smaller one, on day 14:

I was walking the neighborhood, and my muse caught sight of the trees. "You will take a picture," she commanded, "and then you will post it on your blog and Google+." So I looked for a good shot. The first set of trees I considered looked right at first glance. But I decided on another. Here's the picture I took.

Project 365 Day 11: One Random Picture of Y2K Bugs

Like I said, pulling off a complete Project 365 can be tough. Sometimes laziness attacks, and we have to fight back. However, when all else fails, I have the perfect reserve models: Mr. Pac, the Plotbunny, my Silly Slammer, and the Y2K Bugs. Case in point:

Project 365 Day 10: A Walk to the Store

No, I didn't take pictures of the coffee I bought. I wasn't feeling the FriendFeed food meme vibe today. Rather, I was struck by patterns of sun and shade while I was walking up the street, and entirely on a whim I decided to take pictures of the big empty parking lot along the way.

Project 365 Days 8 and 9: That One Picture a Day

Just one picture a day for the last two days. I couldn't be bothered with taking more than one this time. At least I got one in each day...

Here's the Day 8 picture. I figured I'd do something with that recurring FriendFeed food meme. It's not pretty. Even I'm entitled to the occasional dud. (Note: I immediately ate that last piece of birthday cake.)

Today's picture is a casual shot I took on the way home from a cousin's 18th birthday party:

And that's it. The thing with Project 365 is, you take at least one picture a day. It continues as long as you get that one picture. So far, I've at least gotten at least one, so it continues...

Project 365 Day 7: Forcing Myself to Take Pictures

One day, two pictures. I had to drag myself away from Google+ to take them. The trip outside turned into an expedition to Value Village, where I found the Journey and Supertramp albums I was missing and a copy of James Woods' How Fiction Works for my very own.

Today's weather: overcast and kind of gloomy. But not even the worst weather stops the dedicated photographer. Nothing would probably stop me but, yes, Google+...

Project 365, Days 4-6

I'm not exactly keeping pace with the pictures in this blog during this Project 365. The two previous times, I had no such problem because I had that blog at Photoblog. Anyway, I'll work backwards here, starting with yesterday's pics:

I'd say the middle one was a tad underexposed. I'll have to go back to my photography class material so I can remember what the problem and the solution are.

Project 365 Page 3: Google+ Profile Photos

For day 3, I decided to take a couple pictures of myself and post them to my Google+ profile. They're not in my "Project 365 2011-2" Picasa album, but in my Profile Photos. I'm considering using one for Facebook.

One thing that bugs me is that my face doesn't look quite so pretty on camera (or at least on my camera) as it does in the mirror or to other people (especially women). But they're usable, and they're on my profile...

Doing the Project 365 Thing Again: Days 1 and 2

I made the determination I would start a new Project 365 this year and carry it through. I also proclaimed in this entry that I'd be doing it on my Posterous blog. One thing happened that derailed my plan a bit: I got an invite into Google+, the new social network. Problem: it's easy to post pictures on Posterous, but much harder to import them into a post there. So, I'm doing my new Project 365 here.

For those who don't know, in Project 365 you take and post at least one photograph a day. It's harder than it sounds.

On July 1, I restarted my Project 365. That's where you take and upload at least one photo a day for a year. I carried my camera around with me, went downtown, and took this picture. Now all I need to do is keep my camera with me (and not forgetfully leave it in the house), take one picture at minimum, and upload it — every single day for the next year.

Should be easy. Actually harder than you think. In January, I stopped after only 15 days.

I used to have a blog at Photoblog as well. However, that was a bit too much when I already have my Flickr account and this here general-purpose blog, so I pretty much abandoned it. (If it's still around, it's here.) The Flickr photostream can be treated as if it were its own blog, so that's how I'm treating it. All my Project 365 photos uploaded to Flickr, from both attempts at it, are in their own photo set.

And so once again I've decided I want to do this again. I even think I'll be able to pull this off. However, back in January I wasn't able to continue Project 365 and write 65,000 words for JanNoWriMo at the same time. Can I pull it off this time while simultaneously doing not just JulNoWriMo and 50 Songs in 90 Days? We'll see. All I need to do is take one picture a day...

More Maintenance, and a New Photo Blog for Project 365

Tonight, my muse took her sweet time to give me new story ideas for my novel Bad Company, so I went back to the Net, sent my brother some photos, and proceeded to set up a Flickr account and a photo blog, both for Project 365 — and so I'm retiring the photo thread in this blog, just one day after I started it.

Why Flickr when I already have an account with Picasa Web Albums? Because Flickr has a Project 365 group, which I proceeded to join once I uploaded my first photos. This, of course, is the perfect excuse for me to actually use my camera...

Meanwhile, there's some kind of glitch in the template for my opinion blog that I'll have to take care of soon.

I've had an ambitious plan for increasing my Web presence for some time now. But all of a sudden, I find myself carrying it out almost without effort. In a single day, I set up my Flickr account and Photoblog blog. Then tonight I did some more maintenance work on my blogs, replacing the "Links to My Sites" section with a new, improved one. It looks like I'll be setting up my project webpage, and maybe even a LiveJournal account, by the time I post the next entry here. Who knows what else I might end up doing this month...

Project 365 #1: A White New Year's

 

My first picture for Project 365: a snowy New Year's near Seattle.

I wanted to take part in the "Project 365" thing, in which you take a picture a day for a year. Then, around noon, when I started writing my 2007 NaNoWriMo novel Bad Company again, this time for JanNoWriMo, I looked outside the nearest window and found snow on the ground. It had snowed overnight! We not only had a white Christmas in the Seattle area this year, but a white New Year's. So I took this picture, and my Project 365 began!

And so it begins...
